Anna Morris Holstein – Unsung Hero of Upper Merion Township and our Country (CANCELED)

April 18, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

**Program canceled due to the commonwealth’s ‘stay at home’ order.**

Please join us on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 pm to hear the story of Anna Morris Holstein – Unsung Hero of Upper Merion Township and our Country. Anna Morris Holstein felt compelled to leave her comfortable home in Upper Merion in 1862 upon hearing of the great needs of the Union soldiers.  She set off with her husband to serve first in the aftermath of the bloody Battle of Antietam; her life forever changed. The story of an unlikely heroine will be told by Marianne Hooper Furman.

During the Civil War, Anna along with her husband volunteered to attend and nurse the thousands of wounded and dying at Antietam and Gettysburg. She was instrumental in securing vital supplies – food, clothing, blankets and medicines. She also recruited additional women to join her in nursing the soldiers.

After the Civil War, Anna took up the cause of saving Washington’s Headquarters and establishing Valley Forge Park. She also started the Valley Forge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and was the chapter’s first regent.
