New Ambulance Headquarters
On October 23, 1969, Lafayette Ambulance dedicated its new headquarters located on North Henderson Road. The new building had a two-car garage and, due to the growth of Upper Merion Township, the decision to purchase a second ambulance was made. (Courtesy of the King of Prussia Historical Society)

Lafayette Ambulance Origins
In October 1960, with sponsorship from the Kiwanis Club of Valley Forge, the Joint Service Club Committee and the Hospital Study Committee recommended an ambulance organization for Upper Merion rather than a hospital. The original intent was to form an ambulance service capable of performing a full range of rescue services. [After the start-up costs were estimated for rescue equipment, it was decided to begin with only ambulance service.] The first ambulance, an “International,” was housed in June 1962 at the Kunda Sign Company on DeKalb Pike. Road Delay
The PA Turnpike’s Philadelphia Extension lengthened the original 1940 section east from Harrisburg (Carlise) to King of Prussia. The 2nd phase of that expansion, east to King of Prussia at what is now the present-day interchange with I-76 & US 202, didn’t open until November 20, 1950. Weather delays and a cement workers’ strike caused it to miss the October 1, 10th anniversary of the original section. (Courtesy of the King of Prussia Historical Society)
